Hello blog world, I am proud to even announce that I had the opportunity to interview a humble man who is circulating through this sole game more than others. I admire his craft because he came up with something that allows him to interact with others in the world of sole. If you have no idea who I’m referring to, it is Mr. Jumpman Bostic himself. Now is the time to get acquainted with him.
Name: Mark Bostic
Location: Detroit, MI
Twitter: @JumpmanBostic
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/jumpman.bostic
Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/user/jumpmanbostic
Marvelous: I would like to start off by saying I’m a huge fan of your YouTube videos. What made you want to start Straight To The Foot Game?
Jumpman Bostic: Thank you for the compliment and taking the time to view my videos on youtube. I was doing a video one day and in my videos I like to show my shoes on my feet, I said, “Let’s go straight to the foot game” and I became known for those words in the shoe game as well as my love for and collection of shoes.
Marvelous: Now many people know you by Jumpman Bostic, would you like to us where that name came from?
Jumpman Bostic: The name ‘Jumpman’ came from some friends who saw my collection grow from 20 to 100 to 200 Jordan shoes. That’s when it really became part of my name…..lol
Marvelous: Being that you’re the biggest Jordan collector I know, would I be able to find any other brand in your possession?
Jumpman Bostic: I use to collect LeBron’s shoes but changed my mind, you’ll only find one brand in the Basement Of The Jordan’s.
Marvelous: As of right now, how many Jordan’s do you own?
Jumpman Bostic: 727 pairs, I just picked up the 2011 Metallic 5′s from my brother in Miami blacksanta24 who works at Sole Fly.
Marvelous: What would be your definition of sole collecting?
Jumpman Bostic: A person true to the shoe game, has the passion and knowledge of the craft. I believe in wearing my shoes, yes I have some sentimental J’s that will remain DS (Dead Stock). I respect those who collect for shows and keep them DS for that purpose, but I got a lot of love in Dallas, TX at Kixpo 2011. People respected the fact that I wear my shoes, keep them clean and still displayed worn shoes. Also, to me the MAJOR part of collecting is you gotta rock what you like not what the hype beast are promoting. Stay in your spending means and don’t try to buy a certain shoe to fit in. I know people with Fusions (I have and rock Fusions) and now they’ve thrown them away because Fusions are looked down on. That’s sad how two classic brands of shoes combined are disrespected by many.
Marvelous: What shoe solidified the beginning of your sole collecting?
Jumpman Bostic: the AIR JORDAN 1 but the AIR JORDAN 8 is my all time favorite numbered Jordan.
Marvelous: Sole collecting is global these days, but how do you feel about the rise of hypebeasts?
Jumpman Bostic: They’re killing the shoe game, they get shoes just to sell, buy or hold which hurts the TRUE collectors and makes it hard on us to obtain the shoe. The resellers sell at rape prices and hold certain shoes/ limited shoes/ rare shoes hostage so to say. I’ve purchased shoes that I’ve wanted such as Bin’s and PE’s for higher prices but NOT general release shoes.
Marvelous: How does it make you feel when you see your favorite pair of kicks retroed?
Jumpman Bostic: Well, I’m probably one of the few old time collectors who don’t mind the retroing of shoes because it gives the younger collectors the opportunity tp own the shoe. It also allows me to review the older shoes and the newer retro shoe and do a comparison of the shoes. But to retro a shoe every year or every couple of years, I don’t like to see that. If a shoe is retroed it shouldn’t be retroed again for at least ten years.
Marvelous: If you could describe yourself as a sneaker, what sneaker would you be and why?
Jumpman Bostic: It would be my favorite all time AIR JORDAN the 8 because the straps hang free and unstrapped, it’s very comfortable, the color ways are out cold, that #23 on the strap looks sweet and its well constructed and not very flashy. That’s me …….lol
Marvelous: Out of your whole collection, I want you to focus solely on OG Jordan’s. What would be your top 10 OG Jordan faves?
Jumpman Bostic:
- (10) Jordan 17
- (9) Jordan 1
- (8) Jordan 10
- (7) Jordan 2
- (6) Jordan 3
- (5) Jordan 6
- (4) Jordan 11
- (3) Jordan 5
- (2) Jordan 14
- (1) Jordan 8
Marvelous: What are your thoughts on resellers and their inflated prices for shoes? Do you feel like many “collectors” are just purchasing shoes in an attempt to hustle the next “collector”?
Jumpman Bostic: No, I think collectors are buying two of certain shoes to rock a pair and stock a pair. The resellers and hype beast who buy shoes in bulk to sell is what’s killing the game, inflating prices on certain shoes and just flat out killing the game that many sneakers heads love in my opinion.
Marvelous: I definitely appreciate you doing this interview with me. Are there any shout-outs you would like to give or any info you would like to share regarding future plans in the life of Jumpman Bostic?
Jumpman Bostic: Yes, first of all a big shout out to you for interviewing me. I love your dedication and devotion to what you do. Shouts to EVERYONE who supports me, too many to name.
